The Curse - meeting Mikki

1ère version

[Ellie est depuis 10 jours sur place. Les archéologues ont passé 3 jours à préparer le site. Puis l’équipe technique est arrivée pour installer le matériel. L’équipe de tournage est annoncée avec les acteurs ]

The  big day had finally come. I tried not to show it, but I was really excited to meet them. I’d always enjoyed a good movie and a good looking actor, and both Mikki and Ned had starred in a number of them. But there was still work to be done, so as usual I was up at dawn to make sure everything was ready.

2ème version

I was talking with Dan when we heard a disturbance nearby. At the same moment, Domino answered his headset and whispered something in his ear. Who cursed loudly.

"Damnit, I knew she was gonna be trouble."

"What's going on ?"

"Mikki has no interest in safety procedures and wants to visit the site on her 4 inches heels. And when your student told her she wasn't allowed, she went berserk. As expected. I'd better go and smooth her out."

I thought I heard ‘smother her’, but I'm sure I was mistaken. We came back to the forum, and sure enough, the famous Mikki Burton was having a tantrum worthy of a three-years old. Everybody had fled, except Sally who was holding her own as best as she could, and a petite woman I figured was Mikki's assistant.

"Mikki !"

Dan rushed towards her with extended arms. I could see why he was such a good director, having a sense for the flair and dramatics he could portray himself.

"Dan, who does this… girl thinks she is ? She's telling me I can't go on the site if I don't change shoes. Seriously ? She's talking about safety protocols and rules. I don't get it. I'm the star. I can go wherever I want."

Tom took both her hands and tried to explain the regulations. I could see he was going nowhere, that she wasn't listening, and when he turned to me looking distressed, I decided to intervene.

"Miss Burton ? My name's Doctor Elizabeth Harmon and I'm supervising the dig site. I understand you have questions about the safety protocols ?"

"I don't have questions. I just don't see why I have to change shoes. Those are perfectly good shoes and I'm not changing them."

"I'm sorry but you will not be allowed on the site with heels. The terrain is rough and nobody wants you to break an ankle."

Mikki took an air of contempt as she sized me up. Her now famous 4 inches platforms put her clearly above me and the phrase ‘looking down on someone’ had never seemed more right.

"I don't care who you are, I'm going on the set."

And she took a step towards the forum.
